1. Purpose 

\r\n\r\n

1.1. The purpose of this policy is to promote the safety and well-being of members of the Clemson University (\"University\") community, and support compliance with Federal and State hazing and transparency laws and University standards.

\r\n\r\n

1.2. This policy governs conduct that occurs on-campus, off-campus, or through virtual/digital means when involving organizations, as defined in this policy.

\r\n\r\n

2. Scope 

\r\n\r\n

2.1. This policy applies to all members of the University community, including students, employees, affiliates, and any individual involved with a University organization.  

\r\n\r\n

3. Policy Statement

\r\n\r\n

3.1. The University prohibits all forms of hazing. Students, employees, and affiliates must not engage in, promote, assist with, or ignore hazing activities.

\r\n\r\n

3.2. Reporting Hazing Allegations

\r\n\r\n

3.2.1. Any individual in immediate physical or mental harm should contact the police by calling 911.

\r\n\r\n

3.2.2. Any student who experiences hazing can report directly to the Office of Community and Ethical Standards or through reporting options available on the Hazing Prevention and Resources website.

\r\n\r\n

3.2.3. University students must report any hazing they witness or learn about to the Office of Community and Ethical Standards.

\r\n\r\n

3.2.4. Any University employee, affiliate, or visitor who experiences hazing can report directly to the Ethics/Safety Hotline or directly to the Office of Human Resources.

\r\n\r\n

3.2.5. University employees must report any hazing they witness or learn about to the Ethics/Safety hotline or the Vice President of Student Affairs.

\r\n\r\n

3.2.6. The University prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports hazing in good faith.

\r\n\r\n

3.3. Investigations and Disclosures

\r\n\r\n

3.3.1. The University must promptly investigate hazing reports according to student conduct and employment procedures.

\r\n\r\n

3.3.2. The University must publicly report names of organizations with hazing violations, in accordance with Federal and State law.

\r\n\r\n

3.4. Education and Prevention

\r\n\r\n

3.4.1. The University must provide prevention and awareness training and programs for students, employees, and affiliates.

\r\n\r\n

3.4.2. The University provides hazing prevention and awareness training and programming to help the campus community recognize, prevent, and report hazing. More information on these resources can be found on the Stop Campus Hazing website.

\r\n\r\n

3.5. Recourse for Noncompliance

\r\n\r\n

3.5.1. The University holds individuals and organizations accountable for violating this policy and may impose sanctions including, but not limited to, suspension, expulsion, termination, organizational dissolution, and/or referral to law enforcement.

\r\n\r\n

4. Definitions

\r\n\r\n

4.1. Hazing: means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in a student organization; and that causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in the University or the student organization, of physical or psychological injury. This includes, but is not limited to, conduct that:

4.2. Student Organization: an organization in which two or more members are students, whether or not the organization is recognized by the University.
